Police in Pinole asked residents to shelter in place for roughly two hours due to a gas leak Tuesday, according to the Contra Costa County Community Warning System.
PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian said in an email that utility personnel were notified at 11:55 a.m. that a third-party construction crew digging in the vicinity of Smith and Pine avenues struck a 2-inch distribution line.
Utility crews arrived on scene around 12:10 p.m. People were advised to go indoors, close all windows and doors and stay there until receiving additional instructions.
Around 2 p.m., however, the county warning system gave the all-clear.
