Boy ‘awake and alert’ after near drowning at water park

A 10-year-old boy was taken to a hospital by helicopter Tuesday morning after lifeguards at the Antioch Water Park found him at the bottom of the pool.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of a possible drowning at the water park, 4701 Lone Tree Way, at 11:22 a.m. Lifeguards gave the boy CPR, and he was conscious and breathing at 11:55 a.m. when loaded onto the helicopter.

The child was transported to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Police said that as of Tuesday afternoon the victim was awake and alert, but being held at the hospital for medical observation. He is believed to have been underwater for just a few minutes.
