A commercial burglary suspect who appeared to be holding a firearm was seriously injured in a shooting by officers early Tuesday morning in Fairfield, according to police.
The burglary was reported via an alarm activation after a detection of glass being broken at a business on Horizon Drive at 2:10 a.m., police said. Officers who responded located the suspect walking away from the area toward Western Street with what police said appeared to be a handgun. According to police, the suspect refused to listen to commands and after a brief pursuit, was shot by officers. The circumstances about what led up to the shooting were not provided.
As of 6:30 a.m., the suspect was in critical condition at a hospital. No officers were injured. Police didn’t say if the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. Police said the department’s investigations bureau and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting.
