Concord mulls more city funding for ‘1313 Galindo’ project

On Tuesday, the Concord City Council will consider approving an additional $2.3 million in city funds for a five-story affordable housing complex on Galindo Street, which is south of downtown Concord.

The housing project will be built by Resources for Community Development, a Berkeley-based nonprofit. In June 2018, the council approved the initial version of the development, which featured 44 affordable units. Since then, the scope of the project has expanded. RCD has acquired more property on the block and has proposed increasing the number of affordable apartments from 44 to 62 units.

The Concord City Council had originally pledged $5.5 million to 1313 Galindo, as RCD refers to the complex. On Tuesday, the council will consider approving an additional $2.3 million to fund the building’s proposed additional apartments.

Those funds would, if approved, bring the city’s contribution to the project to a total of $7.8 million. The overall cost of the expanded project, according to a city staff report, is $15 million.
