San Francisco fire officials said a kite surfer was rescued Tuesday evening from San Francisco Bay near Alcatraz Island.

San Francisco fire officials said a kite surfer was rescued Tuesday evening from San Francisco Bay near Alcatraz Island. As of 8:06 p.m. the kite surfer had been rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and was uninjured.
Coast Guard Lt. Emily Rowan said the kite surfer was returned safely to St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco.
Rowan pointed out that the kite surfer was wearing a life jacket. She said:
“That definitely helps in situations like this.”
