Nearly nine months after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery, Johnny Cueto passed a major mile-marker on his long road to recovery Tuesday with his first bullpen session in the Giants complex in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Cueto struggled through elbow issues for much of 2018 before finally decided to undergo the surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament just days after allowing four runs on eight hits in a four-inning July 28 outing.
Cueto’s announcement, made via Instagram, included a video of the 33-year-old right-hander throwing from a mound.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Cueto threw 25 pitches off the mound Tuesday, and his recovery is coming along nicely:
“He’s really worked his tail off with the routine rehab and not missing any time and he looks determined to get back sooner than later.”
