One victim identified in Friday shooting rampage across several cities, two states

The San Francisco medical examiner’s office has identified one of three people killed by Stefon Jefferson, the man accused of going on a murderous shooting rampage in the Bay Area before being apprehended by authorities in Nevada on Friday.

Jefferson, 43, is suspected of fatally shooting one person in Oakland on Friday morning and fatally shooting another person in San Francisco. Jefferson then allegedly shot and killed a third person in Berkeley.

Later that day, Jefferson somehow ended up in Nevada, where he shot and wounded a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy before being taken into custody.

The San Francisco victim has been identified as 49-year-old Laron Davis of San Francisco, according to the medical examiner’s office. The names of the victims in Oakland and Berkeley have not yet been released, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. On Saturday, Douglas County sheriff’s officials said Jefferson was in custody on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, battery on an officer, eluding a peace officer, along with numerous additional traffic-related offenses.

Douglas County District Attorney Mark Jackson said that Douglas County will first prosecute Jefferson since he’s in custody there. Jackson also said he will confer with the victims’ families and the Alameda County and San Francisco district attorneys before any legal decisions are confirmed.

According to Oakland police, Jefferson initially shot and killed a man in the 4100 block of Market Street. Officers responded to the scene around 10:15 a.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Then at 1:27 p.m., officers with the San Francisco Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Donner Avenue in San Francisco for a report of a shooting and located a man, later identified as Davis, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Davis was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Around 2:40 p.m., University of California at Berkeley police responded to a shooting at People’s Park at 2556 Haste St.

Police said a male suspect had shot a man at the park and then left the scene in a car. The victim died at a hospital.

On Saturday, University of California police Sgt. Sabrina Reich said that all four law enforcement agencies involved are working with one another on the investigation.

Authorities have not revealed Jefferson’s possible motives or how exactly he was connected to the victims.
