One person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a theater curtain caught on fire at San Jose City College Tuesday afternoon. The fire was reported at 1:58 p.m. at 2100 Moorpark Ave. and firefighters responded within two minutes, according to Capt. Mitch Matlow. A maintenance worker was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation, but no one else was injured.
Firefighters evacuated the building and extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes. Fire officials were on scene as of 3 p.m. and Matlow said people will not be allowed back inside for “quite some time” until the building is safe.
The theater was not seriously damaged and investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. Traffic is backed up on Moorpark while the scene is cleared.
