Driver strikes three dogs on Highway 12, one survives

A motorist struck three dogs, two of which have died, on a freeway on-ramp in Santa Rosa early Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said the collision occurred on the Hoen Avenue on-ramp to westbound state Highway 12 and was reported at 5:02 a.m. One of the dogs was reported as alive as of 5:40 a.m. and was picked up by Sonoma County Animal Services.

The CHP didn’t have any information on why the dogs were on the on-ramp early Tuesday morning.
