A 70-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of strangling her 3-year-old grandson Monday, Milpitas police reported.
Officers responded at 4:44 p.m. Monday to a house in the 700 block of Luz Del Sol Loop on reports of an unresponsive child. Police and firefighters attempted to save the boy’s life, but he died later at the hospital.
The boy was named Ayub Hassan, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office, and he died of “manual strangulation.” Police obtained a warrant for 70-year-old Foos Abdi Hashi on Wednesday and arrested her at 6:20 p.m. in San Jose.
Officers said she is a Milpitas resident and the paternal grandmother of the victim. She was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail on suspicion of murder and is currently being held without bail. She is scheduled to appear in court in Santa Clara County on Friday afternoon.
