Oakland man sentenced to 13 years for fatal shooting

A 43-year-old man with six prior felony convictions was sentenced Tuesday to 13 years in state prison for fatally shooting another man in East Oakland in 2017.

Orlando Moore originally was charged with murder for the shooting death of 49-year-old Errick Parker in the 1300 block of 90th Avenue at 6:53 p.m. on Nov. 14, 2017.

But on Feb. 28, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office agreed to a deal in which Moore pleaded no contest to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and admitted that he possessed a firearm at the time of the shooting.

The plea agreement called for Moore to serve a 13-year term and Alameda County Superior Court Judge James Cramer formally imposed that sentence Tuesday.

Multiple witnesses identified Moore as the person who shot and killed Parker, Oakland police Sgt. Michael Cardoza wrote in a probable cause statement.

Authorities didn’t disclose a motive for the shooting.

According to his obituary, Parker was born in Selma, Alabama, was educated at Castlemont High School in Oakland and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

Moore has two prior convictions each for transporting and selling controlled substances and for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and one conviction each for possession of cocaine for sale and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle.

Four of Moore’s prior convictions were in Alameda County and two were in San Francisco. His convictions date back to 2001.
