A stretch of state Highway 1 south of Gray Whale Cove State Beach has been reduced to one lane Tuesday as San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies work to recover a stolen car from the beach.
Deputies as of late Tuesday afternoon asked drivers to avoid Highway 1 between Moss Beach and Pacifica for the next few hours. The vehicle had been reported stolen to Hayward police on Jan. 26 before being found on the beach, sheriff’s officials said.
The sheriff’s office will send out updates on Twitter and through the county’s alert system when the roadway is clear.
Crews are still at the scene of the vehicle recovery efforts on the coast.
Please avoid Hwy 1 between Moss Beach & Pacifica. We anticipate crews will be out here for a few more hours.
We will update on Twitter & send an SMCAlert when the roadway is clear.
