A 73-year-old man died in a house fire in West Oakland on Monday morning, a fire battalion chief said.
The fire was reported at 5:43 a.m. at a two-story Victorian home in the 1000 block of 16th Street.
Firefighters arrived to see flames coming out of a window on the second floor of the home. The victim was found dead in an upstairs room, while five other people in the home were able to get out safely, Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Sean Laffan said.
Crews extinguished the fire and the American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents, Laffan said.
No other details about the blaze were immediately available.
