Richmond BART station reopens, El Cerrito del Norte still closed

A BART train struck a person at the EL Cerrito del Norte station Monday morning, causing a station closure and major delays for riders, a transit agency spokesman said.

The person was struck shortly before 7:30 a.m. by a Warm Springs-bound train at the station at 6400 Cutting Blvd., BART spokesman Chris Filippi said.

The incident initially prompted the closure of the El Cerrito del Norte station as well as the Richmond station. The Richmond station has since reopened and trains were single-tracking through the El Cerrito del Norte station without stopping, Filippi said.

Alameda-Contra Costa Transit buses are providing mutual aid for riders along the affected route.

No information was immediately available about the person struck by the train.
