Bystander watches man enter Vasona Lake, dive team finds him dead

A man drowned in a Los Gatos lake Monday afternoon, Santa Clara County fire officials confirmed.

Los Gatos police and county fire officials responded to Vasona Lake shortly after 12:30 p.m. when a bystander reported seeing someone who entered the water, but didn’t resurface.

Fire officials couldn’t locate the victim, according to fire Capt. Bill Murphy, and a sheriff’s dive team was sent out. A man was pulled from the water at about 1:45 p.m.

Vasona Lake County Park is a popular public space for walking and jogging. Murphy could only confirm that one person saw the man enter the water.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the drowning. The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office will identify the man once his family is contacted.
