A male suspect wearing a hat partially severed a man’s hand with a sword Friday night in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood, police said Monday.

The incident happened around 9:50 p.m. near Fillmore and Oak streets.

According to police, officers responded to the area after being alerted of a stabbing outside the Church of 8 Wheels roller skating rink. The victim allegedly walked by the suspect and flipped his hat off, police said.

The suspect then took out the sword and stabbed the victim’s left hand before running away.
