Concord pedestrian, 23, killed by vehicle

A 23-year-old pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle Friday evening in Concord has been identified as Shane Nygard Jr., according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

Police responded to Arnold Industrial Way just east of Laura Alice Way around 7 p.m. on a report of a man struck by a vehicle.

The Concord resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 71-year-old resident of Pacheco, stayed at the scene to cooperate with investigators, who said that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
