Missing violin recovered, reunited with owner

San Francisco police officers were able to reunite a violin owner with his instrument Friday after the violin went missing on a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus last month.

On Thursday, police asked the public for help to find the instrument after a woman was seen on surveillance video taking it from a 38-Geary bus near Geary Boulevard and 42nd Avenue on Feb. 20. Police said soon after asking for the public’s help, the violin was turned in to police and on Friday the victim showed up to the city’s Richmond Police Station to pick it up.

The violin was valued at $1,200, according to police.

Although the victim has been reunited with their instrument, police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Police said they haven’t determined yet whether the woman seen taking the violin from the bus will be arrested.
