Homicide suspect arrested in Utah seven years after Castro Valley shooting

A man who has been wanted for seven years for the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man in Castro Valley has been arrested in Ogden, Utah, an Alameda County sheriff’s spokesman said.

A warrant was issued for Cody Tripp, who’s now 33, shortly after Jordan Vigil of Hayward was found dead at a home in the 4300 block of Omega Avenue in Castro Valley at about 7 p.m. on May 14, 2012, sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said.

Sheriff’s officials said after Vigil was found dead that he was known to their office and it had had contacts with him in the past. Sheriff’s investigators had feared that Tripp had fled the country and are glad that he’s now in custody, Kelly said.

Investigators are now in Utah to interview Tripp and hope that he will be extradited to Alameda County soon, according to Kelly. However, investigators haven’t yet presented their case against Tripp to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office to have charges filed against him, Kelly said.
