A 42-year-old Santa Rosa man turned himself into police and was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on Friday morning along westbound state Highway 12, police said Saturday.
Daniel Joseph Bazzoli is suspected of driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider pickup truck that hit a 25-year-old man on the highway, according to Santa Rosa police.
The victim has been identified as Michael John Campbell, of Santa Rosa.
The collision happened about 1:20 a.m. Friday on the highway at Middle Rincon Road, police said. A citizen flagged down a Santa Rosa officer to report there was a man lying unconscious on the westbound shoulder of the highway.
Police said Friday that after hitting the man, the vehicle fled. Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene.
After turning himself in Friday afternoon, Bazzoli was interviewed by investigators and allowed them to access his truck, which had damage from the collision, police said.Bazzoli was arrested for felony hit and run and was booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
