Antioch man arrested in connection with trying to sell firearm

Law enforcement officials in Contra Costa County have arrested an Antioch man in connection with several crimes related to illegally selling a firearm.

Chaz Montgomery, 25, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, unlicensed sale of a firearm and violation of probation, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier this month, the Contra Costa County Anti-Violence Support Effort Team launched an investigation into a person who was allegedly illegally selling a pistol on the street.

On Tuesday, the suspect, identified as Montgomery, attempted to sell a pistol to an undercover agent, according to the sheriff’s office. Montgomery was arrested without incident, and during a search of his vehicle, agents found a .44 caliber revolver with ammunition. Investigators said it appears the revolver was purchased in another state and brought into California.
