Flood debris drop-off sites open through Monday

Drop-off sites for non-toxic flood debris will be open through Monday afternoon for Sonoma County residents cleaning up after recent storms and flooding.

The sites opened on Saturday and will remain open Sunday and Monday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sonoma County officials said. The locations in Forestville/Rio Nido are the Forestville Park and Ride Lot at 8820 River Road and Sunset Beach River Park, 11060 River Road. In Guerneville, the sites are the Guerneville Park and Ride Lot at 16514 Main St. and the JK Amusement Center (Pee Wee Golf and Arcade), 16155 Drake Road.

In Monte Rio, a drop-off site is located at the Monte Rio Community Center, 20488 Highway 116.

The service is intended only for waste originating from the flood, and those using it will be asked to show ID or proof they live in a flood-affected community, according to Sonoma County officials. Residents are asked not to mix hazardous and toxic waste with other flood debris. Common examples of toxic materials can be found at recyclenow.org/toxics/toxics.asp.

Toxic materials collection services are being planned, and details will be shared on www.socoemergency.org, according to a county spokeswoman. Residents are asked to help protect the environment and not leave debris at unattended sites or in public right of ways.
