A 54-year-old man from rural Livermore is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in connection with the fatal shooting of his brother on Saturday night, an Alameda County sheriff’s spokesman said. Jeffrey Murray is being held in Santa Rita Jail without bail on suspicion of murder for the shooting death of 50-year-old Todd Murray in the 1000 block of Hartman Road in an unincorporated area of Livermore shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, according to authorities.
The two brothers are members of a well-known ranching family in rural Livermore and they got into “a family dispute that turned into gun violence,” sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
“People are at a loss at this tragedy,” Kelly said.
Kelly said the fatal shooting is a double tragedy for the Murray family because Todd Murray is dead and Jeffrey Murray could face a lengthy sentence if he’s charged and convicted of murder.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and if Jeffrey Murray is charged, he would be arraigned at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.
