Oakland police search for fatal hit-and-run driver

Police were still looking Sunday for the driver of a car that struck and killed a pedestrian Friday night at a downtown Oakland intersection, police said.

Officers were sent at about 10:39 p.m. Friday to the corner of 24th Street and Broadway, where they found an unconscious man on the sidewalk with obvious injuries, Oakland police Officer Felicia Aisthorpe said Sunday in an email. Oakland Fire Department personnel and Paramedic Plus also responded to provide medical aid.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries a short time later.
