Woman struck, killed in Martinez while trying to cross Highway 4

A woman was killed Thursday on state Highway 4 in Martinez after she reportedly was involved in a crash and was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the highway.

The California Highway Patrol responded at 8:26 p.m. to state Highway 4 west of Pacheco Boulevard on a report of a single vehicle crash. Responding officers located a blue Saturn that had crashed into the center divider in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The driver of the vehicle was located lying unresponsive in the westbound lanes of traffic.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators determined the woman was traveling east on state Highway 4 when she veered off the roadway and crashed into the center metal guardrail.

She exited her vehicle, climbed over the guardrail and tried to run across westbound lanes of traffic.

She was struck by an oncoming Dodge pickup truck.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and was not injured, according to the CHP.

Several witnesses also remained at the scene to provide information to investigators.
