One man dead after Hwy 12 collision in Fairfield early Tuesday

A 62-year-old man died after a collision between a SUV and a passenger car in Fairfield early Tuesday morning, police said. A Solano County sheriff’s deputy and a passerby came upon the collision around 12:40 a.m. on westbound state Highway 12 at Beck Avenue. The passenger car caught fire and the deputy, passerby and Fairfield police officers tried to extinguish the fire and remove the occupants from the car, Fairfield police said.

The two occupants of the car and the solo occupant of the SUV suffered serious injuries and were taken to trauma centers. Despite life-saving efforts, the 62-year-old man died from his injuries, police said. Police are still investigating the collision that closed Highway 12 until around 8 a.m.
