A fatal traffic collision shut down state Highway 12 in Fairfield for several hours early Tuesday, according to police.
California Highway Patrol officials said the collision occurred shortly before 12:50 a.m. at the highway’s intersection with Beck Avenue. Police initially characterized the collision as causing major injuries, but later said it became a fatal crash.
The collision shut down the highway for more than seven hours. Police said as of 7:55 a.m. that the highway had reopened in both directions.
