San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy is keeping his clubhouse loose during the final weeks of the 2015 campaign.
After 25 seasons as a major league manager, Giants skipper Bruce Bochy will be calling it quits after this season.
Bochy announced Monday in Scottsdale, Arizona that he would be retiring. After the first day with the full squad in Scottsdale he shared the surprising news. He told KTVU:
“In my mind, it is time. I have managed with my gut, came up here in 2007 on my gut and it’s a gut feeling that it is time. It has been an unbelievable ride.”
The 2019 season is the final year of Bochy’s current contract, and just wanted to put the questions about his future with the Giants behind him.
Through 12 seasons with the Giants, Bochy has brought three World Series titles to San Francisco and posted a 975-969 record. His impact on the Giants franchise has been significant, he said there is nothing he enjoys more than
managing this team and he looks forward to the next person to come in and help manage the Giants.
Following a nine-year playing career, Bochy has spent the past 24 seasons managing, including 12 with the Padres, spending his entire life around baseball. He doesn’t plan to leave the baseball world.
While skippering in San Diego, Bochy was named the National League Manager of the year in 1996.
In 24 years as a manager, he has had 1926 wins and 1994 losses.
