Theater evacuation during SF ‘Hamilton’ performance leads to injuries

Four people were hospitalized Friday night during a performance of the musical “Hamilton” at the SHN Orpheum Theater in San Francisco. At 9:51 p.m., an adult had a medical emergency at the theater during the performance.

Someone used an automated external defibrillator to help the victim, triggering an alarm and resulting in confusion and an un-organized and rapid exit of people from the theater, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

During the incident, three additional adults suffered injuries with one person breaking a leg and two people suffering moderate injuries. The fire department and the San Francisco Police Department responded to the incident and confirmed it was not due to an intentional act. The four adults were transported to the hospital.

The original patient who suffered the medical emergency was revived and was in critical condition Friday night, according to the fire department.
The theater repopulated following the incident.
