Benicia police said the side windows of 36 vehicles were smashed early Tuesday morning.
Police said they received a call around 2 a.m. about a car window smashed in the 300 block of West M Street. More windows were smashed in the 100 block of East O Street, the 300-400 block of West M Street and the 1200 block of West Third Street.
Small items were taken from the vehicles and many items were thrown on the street and recovered, police said.
Police said it appears the window smashing was an act of vandalism and not theft. Any residents with home security cameras facing the streets of the vandalized areas is asked to call Benicia police at (707) 745-3411 if they see anything suspicious on the video.
