San Francisco police announced Monday they arrested two suspects last week who allegedly assaulted and robbed a merchant outside his business in the city’s Excelsior neighborhood.
On Jan. 19, the male business owner had arrived at his business in the 4600 block of Mission Street after having just returned from a nearby bank.
Two male suspects then allegedly assaulted him and took his cash. The victim was taken to a hospital for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Using surveillance video from nearby businesses and from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, investigators were able to identify the suspects and arrested them on Thursday.
Police identified one suspect as 18-year-old Taiepisi Gutu of San Francisco. The other suspect is a 17-year-old boy, also from San Francisco, police said.
According to jail records, Gutu was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, battery, conspiracy and buying or receiving stolen property. He’s being held in lieu of $215,000.
