A Salinas woman has been found guilty of battery against her adult daughter in a case stemming from a 2018 incident, Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni announced Wednesday.
Marta Rodriguez, 61, was found guilty following a two-day trial and faces up to six months in jail.
On Aug. 12, Rodriguez and her daughter got into an argument over her daughter moving out of their apartment.
Rodriguez became so upset during the argument, her daughter called the Salinas Police Department for a civil standby, prosecutors said. After Rodriguez’s daughter and the officers left the residence, Rodriguez sent her daughter a text Rodriguez was going to throw away a coffee pot the daughter left behind.
When the daughter returned to retrieve the coffee pot, Rodriguez went into a rage, threatened the daughter and physically attacked her by pulling the victim’s hair and scratching her, prosecutors said. Police responded to the residence, and Rodriguez was arrested. Rodriguez is scheduled for sentencing on March 1.
