Wrong-way driver, victims identified

Two people killed Sunday in an early morning crash on Highway 101 in San Francisco have been identified.

Waheedullah Etimad, a part-time Uber driver from Concord, died in the 2:33 a.m. collision Sunday, authorities said Monday.

Etimad, 40, was driving northbound on the freeway near Vermont Street when he was hit by a wrong-way driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the car headed the wrong way, Kayla Wilson, 21, of San Jose, also died, authorities said. It’s believed that Wilson entered the freeway from the Vermont Street off-ramp.

Friends of Etimad, the father of seven children, have set up a GoFundMe page for his family, at https://www.gofundme.com/waheed-etimad-uber-driver.

Etimad, a Diablo Valley College student, came to USA in 2016, according to the GoFundMe page.

The three-car collision injured nine other people, the CHP said, including one person hospitalized in critical condition.

The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
