Caltrain reopens after fatal strike in Redwood City

A Caltrain struck and killed a person who was trespassing on the tracks in Redwood City on Wednesday morning, according to the transit agency.

The collision was reported at 10:07 a.m. on Main Street in Redwood City and involved southbound Train No. 134 traveling from San Francisco to San Jose, Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman said.

There were 41 people aboard the train at the time and none were reported injured, Lieberman said. More information about the person who died was not immediately available.

The death and subsequent investigation caused delays and track closures in the area for about four hours.

Caltrain officials said shortly after 2 p.m. that all tracks had reopened with trains running at maximum speeds.
