Federal services resume at GGNRA after shutdown

With a federal government shutdown that lasted 35 days now over, officials with the National Park Service said Monday that operations at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in the San Francisco Bay Area have resumed.
This includes operations at Muir Woods National Monument and Fort Point National Historic Site.

All areas of those parks are open and visitor services are once again operating.

NPS spokesman Charles Strickfaden said in a statement:

“The employees of the National Park Service are happy to be back at work, serving the American people, and welcoming visitors to their national parks from all over the world!”

According to Strickfaden, donations from businesses and community partners kept the parks open during the shutdown, as well as did help from the Presidio Trust and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

President Donald Trump brought about the government shutdown, the longest in U.S. history, in December over demands to fund a $5 billion-plus border wall with Mexico.
