A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Vallejo on Tuesday evening, according to police.
The victim was hit by a black Kia Soul traveling eastbound on Lewis Brown Road around 6:58 p.m. as they were walking between Sonoma Boulevard – state Highway 29 – and Broadway Street, police said.
Police said the victim, likely a transient or homeless woman, was found in front of a furniture store and transported to a hospital, where she died.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old Vallejo man, is cooperating with the investigation. Speed has been determined not to be a factor, but police said investigators are trying to determine if alcohol was.
Police said this is the first traffic-related fatality of 2019. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Vallejo Police Officer Kenneth Trimble at (707) 648-4011.
