Rain cancels pre-College Football championship concert

Inclement weather – rain, high winds and standing water at the concert venue – prompted cancellation of the free ” AT&T Playoff Playlist Live!” concert at Discovery Meadow in downtown San Jose, according to officials with College Football Playoff National Championship.

The show will not be rescheduled.

The concert, part of a weekend of festivities connected with the national championship football game pitting Clemson against Alabama played Monday night in Santa Clara, was to have featured performances by OneRepublic, Elle Goulding and The Regrettes.

“Of course, safety is the primary consideration for the College Football Playoff and its sponsors, and the cancellation of tonight’s show is consistent with that priority,” Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP, said in a statement Sunday night.

Gates were set to have opened at 6 p.m. Sunday, with music starting later.
