Presidio Heights Christmas Day house fire claims second victim

A second person has died following a fire at a three-story home in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights neighborhood early Monday morning, according to the city’s medical examiner’s office.

The two victims who died have been identified as Michael Hooker, 83, and Connie Hooker, 69, after the fire that started shortly before 1 a.m. at the home in the 3800 block of Clay Street.

Michael Hooker died in the blaze and Connie Hooker was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died.

A firefighter suffered burns while trying to enter the home and was treated at a hospital and later released, San Francisco fire Lt. Jonathan Baxter said.

The fire started on the second floor and spread to the third floor. Its cause is under investigation, Baxter said.
