Motorcyclist injured speeding away from Pleasanton police

A motorcyclist was injured Sunday afternoon when, while speeding away from police, he slammed into the back of a car and was thrown from his cycle, Pleasanton police said.

The unidentified motorcyclist was seen by police about 2:30 p.m. headed east on Stoneridge Drive at Hopyard Road at a high rate of speed, police said. Officers tried to pull the motorcyclist over, but he instead sped up and, at Hacienda Drive, hit the back of another vehicle, and was thrown into the air.

Police gave immediate medical aid to the motorcyclist, who was soon taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment of what Pleasanton police said are non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

The busy intersection of Stoneridge and Hacienda Drives was closed for almost three hours as the motorcyclist was treated and police investigated the scene. It wasn’t known late this afternoon whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 931-5100.
