Woman killed while crossing San Jose street

A woman who was hit and killed by a car Saturday evening in San Jose has been identified as 50-year-old Joan Crowley, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Crowley was walking across an uncontrolled intersection at 6:12 p.m. when she was hit by a 2018 Porsche traveling east on Quito Road at Northlawn Drive.

Police said the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The woman driving the Porsche remained at the scene and cooperated with police, who don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal crash.

Crowley was the 21st pedestrian fatality on San Jose streets in 2018, and another pedestrian was hit and killed about six hours later, resulting in 50 total vehicle-related fatalities on city streets this year.
