Caltrain service resumes after fatal Redwood City strike

A pedestrian died after being struck by a Caltrain vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Redwood City, the transit agency reported.
The train was traveling south from San Francisco to Gilroy when it struck the pedestrian at 3:59 p.m. on tracks at Main Street grade crossing, according to Caltrain.
Caltrain allowed northbound trains to pass through the area beginning at about 4:30 p.m., and the train involved in the fatality was released at 5:13 p.m. after the San Mateo County coroner’s office arrived on scene.
Emergency responders are on scene and none of the 454 people aboard the train were reported injured.
The agency said this is the 11th Caltrain-related fatality this year. The coroner’s office will identify the victim once their family members are notified.
