Milpitas officer injured during foot pursuit

A Milpitas police officer was injured and hospitalized last week during a foot pursuit of a suspect following a traffic stop.

On Nov. 10 at 1:32 a.m. an officer with the Milpitas Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of East Calaveras Boulevard on a vehicle for an equipment violation.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Sean Oliva, 37, of Union City, gave the officer a false identity and then led officers on a foot pursuit across several lanes of traffic.

Officers were able to apprehend Oliva, but one of the officers suffered moderate injuries during the pursuit and was transported to the hospital.

The officer is expected to recover from his injuries.

Oliva had an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of narcotics out of Sacramento, and officers located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

Oliva was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting arrest, false impersonation of an individual, possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and on the outstanding warrant.
