Man gets 65 years for sexually abusing stepdaughter

A 29-year-old Oakland man was sentenced Friday to 65 years to life in state prison for sexually abusing his stepdaughter starting when she was only 6 years old.

Jorge Ramos was convicted in June of two counts of intercourse or sodomy with a child under the age of 10, one count of sexual penetration of a child under 10, one count of continuous sexual abuse and one count of evading police.

Prosecutors said the intercourse or sodomy and penetration offenses occurred between June 1 and Aug. 31 in 2010 and the continuous sexual abuse occurred between July 16, 2013, and Jan. 31, 2015.

Prosecutors filed the felony evading charge against Ramos because he fled from Oakland police when they tried to arrest him on July 9, 2016.

Officers ultimately found Ramos hiding in a dumpster and arrested him.

Ramos’ lawyer Gregory Ward wrote in a sentencing memo that Ramos will be eligible for parole in the summer of 2041, when he would be 52 years old.

Ward said Ramos will be eligible for parole before he finishes serving all of his sentence because he’s considered a youthful offender, as he was under the age of 23 when he committed his crimes.
