Son arrested after father stabbed in Santa Rosa

A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking his 63-year-old father with a large meat cleaver in their Santa Rosa apartment on Monday evening, according to police.

Police arrested Samay Chan, of Santa Rosa, on suspicion of attempted murder after they responded at 7:27 p.m. to the apartment in the 2600 block of Northcoast Street and found the man’s father bleeding profusely.

Investigators determined that Chan got upset with his father and stabbed him several times with the meat cleaver.

Officers on the scene treated the father for his wounds before he was transported to a hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition, police said. Chan was detained and then booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Santa Rosa police violent crimes investigation team at (707) 543-3590 or (707) 528-5222.
