Eight displaced after three-alarm Oakland fire

A three-alarm fire displaced eight people Monday night from a six-unit residential complex in East Oakland, a fire official said Tuesday.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported at 8:54 p.m. in the 2300 block of 83rd Avenue and controlled about two hours later.

The cause is still under investigation, Oakland fire Battalion Chief Tracey Chin said.

Four women, one man and three children were displaced by the fire because the units they lived in suffered moderate to severe damage, according to Chin.

The complex is owned by the Oakland Housing Authority and the agency is arranging housing for the people who were displaced, Chin said.

It’s estimated that the blaze caused about $800,000 of damage to the building, she said.
