Voters retain city council incumbents in Belmont, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae

Many incumbents had success in City Council races around San Mateo County in Tuesday’s election.

Belmont voters re-elected all three of their incumbents, with Julia Mates, Warren Lieberman and Charles Stone finishing ahead of challenger Deniz Marie Bolbol.

Two incumbents in Half Moon Bay also were re-elected. Deborah Penrose and Debbie Ruddock will stay in their council seats, joined by newcomer Robert Brownstone, according to the complete unofficial election results.

Millbrae’s two incumbents Anne Oliva and Rueben Holober remained in the two seats up for election Tuesday, defeating You You Xue.

Not all incumbents in the county had success in their respective council races. Donna Rutherford in East Palo Alto, Kirsten Keith and Peter Ohtaki in Menlo Park, and John Keener in Pacifica were among the current seat-holders who did not win another term, according to the election results.
