Vacaville elects Ron Rowlett mayor by less than 900 votes

Ron Rowlett appears to have won a close battle for the Vacaville mayor’s seat by a little less than 900 votes with 100 percent of precincts reporting early this morning, according to complete unofficial election results.

Rowlett, a 10-year Vacaville city councilmember, has defeated his top contender, fellow Councilmember Dilenna Harris, by 884 votes. Michael Kitzes, a Vacaville school board member, finished third with 4,525 votes. Incumbent Len Augustine declined to run for re-election.

Fairfield Mayor Harry Price will hold onto his seat, winning 61.34 percent of the vote over Aneta Wise, a para-educator.

In the Suisun City mayor’s race, long-term incumbent Pete Sanchez has lost his seat to Vice Mayor Lori Wilson. Wilson collected 56.58 percent of the vote compared to Sanchez’s 42.72 percent. Sanchez had been mayor since 2006 and had been on the City Council since 1994.

The Vallejo City Council race was the most hotly contested race in the county, with four candidates separated by 5,710 votes and the last of three seats available being won by a little more than 400 votes, according to the unofficial results.

Hakeem Brown, a Vallejo business owner, collected the most votes with 19,015. Incumbent Vice Mayor Katy Miessner had the second most votes with 15,132 and incumbent Pippin Dew-Costa garnered 13,712, edging out fellow Councilmember Jesus “Jess” Malgapo by just 407 votes.

In Vacaville, Vice Mayor Mitch Mashburn cruised to a victory with 37.52 percent of the vote for a City Council seat, and Yolo County Social Services Director Nolan Sullivan won the second seat with 27.92 percent.

In Fairfield, Catherine “Cat” Moy and Chuck Timm won both City Council seats with a little more than 12,000 votes each. Dorris Panduro was the next closest contender at 8,776 votes.
