Pedestrian killed in Salinas intersection

A vehicle struck and killed a woman in Salinas on Wednesday evening, police said Thursday.

The collision was reported at 7:44 p.m. at the intersection of South Main and West Alisal streets.

The woman was transported to Natividad Medical Center but died from her injuries. Her name has not been released.

Police said an initial investigation determined the vehicle was heading east on West Alisal Street at about 25 mph when it struck the woman in the intersection.

The driver, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, appears to have had a green light when going through the intersection, according to police.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Salinas police at (831) 758-7321.
