Public health officials in Monterey County have lifted health advisories that were issued at three beaches due to fecal matter contamination.
Monterey Municipal, San Carlos and Carmel beaches are now considered safe and visitors can resume recreational activities in the water, according to county officials.
Samples taken on Wednesday showed that indicator bacteria levels have subsided since Monday. The bacteria test for the presence of feces, which can come from storm drains, animal or human activity.
Fecal matter in water is connected to the risk of illness, according to county officials.
