A longtime San Francisco Municipal Railway bus driver involved in a crash in the Marina District last month has died, The City’s medical examiner’s office confirmed Tuesday.
Milton James, 66, died on Sept. 26 from injuries he suffered in the Sept. 10 bus crash. James, a San Francisco resident, had worked as a bus driver for Muni for 38 years.
The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. in the 2300 block of Lombard Street, where the eastbound 28-19th Avenue bus James was driving crossed the median and went into the westbound lanes of Lombard Street. The bus then struck a parked car, a tree, a parking meter and the awning and sign of a dry cleaning business.
James was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. Two passengers, both women aged 25 and 56, were also hospitalized but with minor injuries, according to police.
The dry cleaning business only sustained minor damage as a result of the crash, officials with the city’s Department of Building Inspection determined.
San Francisco police spokeswoman Giselle Linnane said today that the crash remains under investigation.
